IVF - In Vitro Fertilization | Uttara Fertility Centre

What is IVF?

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a fertility treatment where eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory to form embryos, which are then transferred into the uterus.

Who Can Benefit from IVF?

  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • Moderate to severe male factor infertility
  • Ovulation disorders or low ovarian reserve
  • Endometriosis
  • Genetic screening (PGT) is required
  • Repeated IUI failures or unexplained infertility

IVF Procedure (Step-by-Step)

  1. Ovarian Stimulation: Fertility injections to mature multiple eggs.
  2. Monitoring: Regular ultrasounds and hormone tests.
  3. Egg Retrieval (OPU): Collection of eggs under mild sedation.
  4. Fertilization: IVF or ICSI performed in the lab.
  5. Embryo Culture: Embryos grown in the lab for 3–5 days.
  6. Embryo Transfer (ET): One or two embryos placed into the uterus.
  7. Support & Pregnancy Test: Luteal support, followed by β-hCG test after 12–14 days.

Success Rates

Success depends on age, egg quality, sperm quality, embryo development, and clinical factors. On average, women under 35 have higher success per cycle, while rates gradually decrease after 35.

Risks & Considerations

  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (rare complication)
  • Multiple pregnancy (if more than one embryo is transferred)
  • Mild discomfort or risks associated with procedures
